ZrMs Bonaire - Some History

ZrMs Schroefschip Bonaire was built in 1877 and served for the the Dutch navy until the year 1902. An interesting time when the transition started from sailing ships to motorised steam ships. After that the ship was mainly used as an accomodation ship for cadets. Since 1996 the Bonaire is lying in a antique drydock in Den Helder, the dutch navy harbour, waiting for restauration which has started a while ago. Soon the ship will be revived in her original state as a museum ship for display however will stay in the drydock. For more information please visit the website of the Bonaire foundation. www.stichtingbonaire.nl
